CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Potemkin Collective is inviting participation for a new exhibition called "Ruin and Reclamation", being held in a disused downtown building on fifth street between Miro’s Restaurant and Express Coffee (the old Singer building).

The Collective’s vision for this initiative is about temporarily animating dead urban space. We are asking artists to respond to the themes of ruin or reclamation either directly or obliquely; works can address architecture, relationships, aesthetics, or any myriad of metaphoric investigation. All work will accepted, as all works will re-contextualize the physical site, which is our aim.

We are encouraging interested individuals to view the space and create site-specific works, but finished pieces may also be submitted and installed. All disciplines are welcome, including but not limited to, painting, drawing, performance and media. Everyone who wants to participate is welcome, though we will ultimately be limited by the footprint of the building, so contact the Collective early. There is a large main-floor and a half-basement, as well as power outlets.

The Collective will be more than happy to bring interested artists into the space for a look. We are waiting on getting key access to the building, but if you email us, we let you know at the earliest possible date.

The exhibition will open May 30, 2009, and will be open to the public Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for the next two consecutive weeks. The deadline for submissions will be May 11, to give us enough time to prepare a catalogue for the opening.

There are no artist fees involved, but a modest catalogue will be produced, and all participants will receive a copy.
